... I'll beat anyone who says that this is just a big brown hairy spider. She is GORGEOUS! Thanks for sharing, Joyce!

Don't you just want to pet her? Talk about soft and fuzzy looking.

Thanks, Annette. I think Rosemary named her appropriately. :-)
She's definitely soft and fuzzy looking, Patrick. I try to refrain from petting her though.... LOL

I came home from work this evening to find 'Belinda' deceased. :-( She was in one of her favorite 'basking' spots looking just a little too relaxed. No death curl just limp and dead. Not sure if it was pre- or post-rigor limpness. She was in front of her hide this morning and looked fine. No obvious cause of death. RIP Belinda.

Oh Joyce, the bad news just keep coming, huh? I am so sorry to read about your loss. This has happened to me twice throughout my tarantula keeping "career". I think this might happen to older individuals that just simply get exhausted after a molt and can't go any further. At least she has a great life to look back at from the eternal tarantula roaming grounds: saved from the bulldozers in CA, home with two amazing T keeper ladies (Rosemary and you)....
Hugs, A

Thanks, everyone. I felt very privileged to have her stay with me the past 11 months. According to the tag she came with, Rosemary pulled her May 7, 1996, so she had been in captivity for 16 years. Who knows how old she was when she was caught. She came with the name Belinda, and it was very appropriate. She will be missed.

More than likely she was a subadult or adult, so a run of 20-30 years I would guess. It is sad you only saw the last one. Hopefully your experience and posts will focus people on protecting and keeping our awesome natives. I am sorry for your loss, but thank you for sharing the images.
