I don't know what it is with me and super small spiders lately, but here is another one. Tutelina sp. male (I'm guessing T. similis). This little guy was on the top of my garbage can today (same place I found the ant mimic from a couple posts down. Yeeeah garbage can!).

Here is an overview/scale pic with my thumb. Excuse the dirt, was digging around in the hosta beds. My thumbnail is a little smaller than a dime (guess thumbs don't make good scale references if you have to in turn compare them to something else)

Really darting his eyes around (red eye flash). Also showing some fang.

Cute, huh?!?

Awww, jumpers are just too cute. I have a nice size P. audax that I let run around my place. Much larger than the one you have pictured there. I must say those are some fine photos of such a small critter. My camera dreams of being able to take close-ups of tiny things like that. Well done! :)

Great images. I need more macro capabilities! Those are sweet little guys, even if they do have fangs. heh

Thanks all!

Steve-o: P. audax are the best aren't they? I used to have one living in my medicine cabinet in the bathroom (always cheered me up early in the morning:) used to catch food for him and he stuck around for a loong time )

Here is a scale pic of a big ol audax from a couple of years back (such a messy, messy eater! Moth scales were everywhere) :

Very nice Lindsey!!! The one I let run around here is the same size. I havent seen it eat yet, but Ive held it numerous times. It bit my son though.

Here is the one I see here. Sorry the pic sucks. I guess from what Ive been told is that its not an adult yet since the abdominal markings are still orange. If this thing isnt full grown, Id LOVE to see it as an adult!

Yikes!..was it a grasping pinch or something more painful? I've seen reports on the 'net of jumpers biting, but it is something I have never run into (I have handled a lot of jumpers; they are usually so dog-gone pleasant I have kinda forgotten they even have the means to bite:) )

Have you tried throwing food to it? Moths and flies work especially well (the audax in my photo caught her own though) They are sooo aware of their surroundings, they usually jump and snatch it before it hits the ground (or wall)...kinda resembles those frisbee dog competitions:) .

Lindsey

Edit: the more I look at your photo (with the posterior eyes showing) the more it looks like a gorrila face.

I wasnt there when it bit him. I was playing with it and handed it off to my son. I then stepped outside for a few minutes and next thing I know my son was crying :( saying that it bit him. I didnt even see a mark on him, so I dont know if it really did bite him or not.
