Ever since the storm tore through the central and eastern USA on June 29 or 30 I haven't been able to connect to Arachnoboards. At first I thought it was the fault of the power failure, and that they or that portion of the Internet they connect through would be up and running within a few days.

But, it's now been over 2 weeks, almost all the power has been reestablished in the affected areas, and I still get an error message that the connection was reset. Furthermore, I just did a search on 7 or 8 other forums (which are all working just fine, thank you very much) to see if anyone else had reported the same thing. Nada. The rest of the world seems to be tooling along as though nothing happened.

So, I'm beginning to worry if it's a problem on my end, or if they've finally gotten tired of me and shut me out! (Don't laugh, that happened on one forum! It's a sad story.) Tell me, please, are any of the rest of you having Arachnoboards difficulties? Are they really shut down? Is this a permanent thing? Or only until they solve hardware, software, or connectivity issues?

Or, is it something on my end? If so, I haven't the foggiest idea what it might be.

I just tested it from here and got in without any trouble. Don't know if that means they fixed it after you posted and before I tried it, or if your end has connection difficulties. Try again and see what happens.

Stan,

The BEST option to check the status of AB is to hit up their facebook page. They update down times there. The problem with asking on any discussion board is that many folks do not hit more than one, so replies are slow. FB is a much faster option.

MODS: It occurred to me that this thread would have been better placed somewhere else (e.g., the "General" forum?). If you want to move it somewhere else, including the trashcan, be my guest. It's served its purpose and can only be a distraction from now on.

[BEGINNING OF RANT]
I have a personal disinclination to have anything to do with FaceBook or any of the other "social networking" sites. At one time several years ago one of my family members waxed effusively about it and convinced me to open an account/become a member/whatever on FaceBook. "It'll make it SOOooo much easier for us to keep in touch!" Within less than 48 hours I had over 100 people who wanted to be my friend! A large portion of whom couldn't even spell my name right! I nuked that sucker pronto. Phooey!

Now, when I visit that link the !@#$%! thing wants me to either sign in or open another account before they'll have anything to do with me. No way! I live in a motorhome out in the sticks to get away from frenzied, largely meaningless, social networking, among other things. Neither do I do texting or participate in personal messaging on the various forums. If anyone needs to get hold of me, they can use this forum or the options itemized in my signature.
[END OF RANT]

Having said all that, it now appears likely that my inability to connect to AB lies with some peculiarity of the Wifi hotspot I'm using. I've uninstalled Mozilla Firefox and reinstalled it to no avail. And, I've found that I can't connect to AB using IE either. Sometime this afternoon I'll go into the Village of Clinton to a coffee shop and try logging on through their hotspot. Under any circumstances, it's really not terribly important. Neither AB nor I will suffer by my absence.

In a worst case scenario, I'll be moving back to civilization in a week to a proven hotspot.

Besides, in the long run I prefer the ATS forum anyway. :D
